Why?

Uncategorized

The first question I asked myself when I decided to start a new blog here at Baywords was, “Why?”

It’s not like I haven’t tried to blog before; the internet is littered with blogs and websites that I’ve started and then let slide.  Why do I think this time is going to be any different?

Well, I don’t know that it is.  But I like the concept behind Baywords- freedom of speech- and I’ve been meaning to start writing again.  I don’t know that I’ll have much time to put into this blog until summer comes around (that is to say, until mid-May), but once I have time, I intend to put rather a lot of it into this.

Why the urge to start writing again?  I’ve recently been involved in putting together Oberlin’s new genre literary magazine, Spiral.  Reading through the excellent (and the not-so-excellent) submissions has made me realize just how much I miss writing for myself.  College is unfortunately full of things you have to write for other people, which will make this summer all the more enjoyable as far as writing for myself goes.

What will this blog be about?  Well, that’s a tricky subject.  It may include some stories, parables, and occurrences from my life, but mostly in the context of a global shift in consciousness I see coming up in the next four years, and the technology I find enchanting.  In other words, this will be my way of publicly chronicling the years I see as the end of an era and the technology that is helping to bring that end about.

The astute may have noticed that four years from now means 2012, which is quickly becoming a loaded number in our society.  Yeah, I’m one of those people who think the Mayans got it right, that something big is going to happen or has already started happening between now and December 22, 2012.  I’m not a crackpot, or at least I don’t think I am- it’s just that my life is full of signs and portents, and most of them point toward something big happening right around then.

All right, this first post was mostly just to get the ball rolling on this blog; if you want to know more about me, head over to the About page.  There’s not much here yet, and might not be for a week as I finish some papers and so forth, but I’ll be trying to devote some serious time to this in the near future.
